Saddanar's Homecoming December 6, 1202: After being away for nearly 6 months, Saddanar returns to the village of New Moret and finds life there very different than when he left. The village has been rebuilt and life has returned to normal. With great joy, the village welcomes Saddanar with open arms. Saddanar is saddened somewhat when he learns that his apprentice Shandra Greenwood has left the village seeking to study with another master. December 9, 1202: A banquet held in Saddanar's honor. During the banquet, the interim Mayor, Sandish Marshall, passes his powers to Saddanar and Saddanar assumes responsibility for governing the village. December 15, 1202: A group of 6 free-hold farmers asks to meet with Saddanar. The leader, a rancher named Aaron Took, tells Saddanar that this small group represents a co-op of farmers and ranchers that live in various locations about 3 days from New Moret. Over the past 5 or 6 months all of the various farms have been plagued with livestock disappearances; a calf here, a lamb there, nothing real valuable and never the same farm hit twice in a row. Aaron goes on to say that another farmer, one Mark Teahan, claims to have seen a large creature carry off a colt early one morning about 2 weeks ago. Most think a Troll has moved into the area and is stealing livestock for food. The co-op does not want to burden the Great Saddanar with such a small matter, but fear that with winter approaching this Troll may begin taking farmers once the livestock runs out. December 16, 1202: Since Saddanar cannot, himself, cover all theses farms, he sends a wardog, an archer, and a city soldier to each of the 6 farms who sent representatives. Thinking this creature might be a Troll, Saddanar tells the group that Trolls fear fire and that if they see this creature taking animals again, to "strongly" present fire to drive it away. At the farms with soldiers present, the archers will be ready with arrows to light on fire and shoot at the creature, while the foot soldier will attempt to hold back the creature while farmers flee, if necessary. Once we have a accurate description from the soldiers, Saddanar will have a better idea of what he is to deal with. December 28, 1202: A set of guards returns with news. One of the groups has encountered the creature. It stole a sheep from a corral that was not far from the barn where the guards were posted. They got a good look at the creature and although neither guard had never seen a Troll, they don't believe that's what it was. For one thing it's skin was not green. In addition, it exuded an air of evil that was so thick one could almost taste it. Both guards feel that they would have been killed if they would have attacked. They followed the creature for a short while, finally loosing it in the darkness. The next day, they continued searching in the direction the creature was going and discovered the ruins of a castle on large rocky knoll. These ruins are about a days trek from the furthest farm placing it about 5 days from New Moret. January 2, 1203: Saddanar travels to Verbobonc on business and returns 3 days later. |
