Thunder Mountain November 26, 1202: While standing at the mithral gates of Thunder Mountain, the party consisting of Roman, Renchor, Saddanar, Natasha, and Nomad meet the last gate guard of this once great Dwarven stronghold, a warrior named Finnous Fuddledumper. Finnous has a great tale to tell about the last days of Thunder Mountain. Feeling this Dwarven stronghold is somehow his destiny, Roman leads the party into the great complex. To everyone’s dismay, the corridors and passages are lined with the skeletal remains of hundreds of dwarves. After several minor encounters with goblins, bugbears, and the like, the party discovers an ancient temple deep in the mountain’s core. As the party bursts into the temple, they discover over 660 Dwarven warriors that have been possessed by a band of unclean spirits who call themselves Legion. To make matters worse, a powerful demon by the name of Kergen who ommands Legion and he will accept nothing less than to add the party’s souls to his demonic flock. During the next several days, the group, now joined by Nomad's colleague Vallador, battle Kergen and force the demon to show his true appearance. As the demonic forces regroup, the party was forced to retreat to the temple of Moradin on the first level of the complex. On the way to the temple, Roman pulls the sword Fjalar from the motherstone and claims the weapon as his own. Once back at the temple, Saddanar, perhaps seeing too much of the neither realms, decides to teleport home and forget about the turmoil dwelling within the troubled halls of Thunder Mountain. December 21, 1202: While held up in the temple of Moradin, the group decides that Nomad, Vallador, and Natasha should travel to the village of Rutherton, a day’s trip away, with the body of Finnous Fuddledumper to see if, by chance, this last true guard of Thunder Mountain can be restored to life. January 5, 1203: The group consisting of Roman, Renchor, Nomad, and Dane continue their exploration of Thunder Mountain. While searching the abandoned shops, the group was attacked by a group of Rutterkin demons. The demons were quickly overcome leaving the group wondering about the demon’s origin. After completing their search of the shops, the party continus their exploration, by traveling down Farndon’s Furrow. Here, the party discovers the bloody remains of several recently slain dwarves. These gruesome bodies were not killed by sword or claw, but looked as if something buried deep inside had come to life and torn its way out of these unfortunate souls. Diving deeper into the mines, the party discovers two Ogre guards that are undergoing a painful demonic transformation. They quickly end the transformation process as well as the Ogres’ suffering. Still exploring the twisted mine passages, the party comes to Kergen’s prison and enters the portal to Kergen’s domain for a final attempt to seal the portal and trap the demon is his domain forever. To the party’s dismay, they discover that Kergen is actually a Balor and although they fight with great courage, they are not able to trap the Balor. Kergen and his Legion of Demons escape Thunder Mountain. After healing in the Temple of Moradin, Nomad, Natasha, Dane, Lady, and Renchor leave Thunder Mountain to search for other adventures. Roman and Finnous remain at Thunder Mountain in hopes to restore this once proud Dwarven stronghold to its former glory. |
